Foreign Office to Messrs. Brooke, Simpson, and Spiller.

Gentlemen,

Foreign Office, October 12, 1904. WITH reference to your letter of the 29th ultimo, I am directed by the Marquess of Lansdowne to inform you that a translation of the Provisional Regulations for the registration of trade-marks in China, issued by the Chinese Government, and published at Shanghai on the 12th ultimo, has been received from His Majesty's Minister at Peking. The translation is now in the possession of the Board of Trade, to whom Lord Lansdowne has suggested the advisability of publishing the Regulations in this country.

The date when they are to come into operation, as at present arranged, is the 23rd October; but, in view of the objections raised in some quarters to certain of the stipulations, it is possible that the date may be postponed.

I am,

&c.
